What about inviting them to live with you?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2013,&nbsp;Chris Salvatore moved in across the hall from Norma Cook, an 85-year-old woman, and her cat, Hermes. The two always said hello to each other, but after Salvatore introduced himself they became fast friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact they became such good friends that when Norma was near the end of her life and in need of constant care, Salvatore, a 31-year-old actor, asked her to move in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When Norma turned 89 her health began to rapidly decline.&nbsp;After a hospital stay,&nbsp;Salvatore learned that Cook wouldn\u2019t be allowed to return home unless she had constant care.&nbsp;Without any children of her own or family nearby, she was at a loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Salvatore took to the internet and set up a&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/myneighbornorma?utm_source=&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_content=heroes&amp;utm_campaign=chris-norma\" target=\"_blank\">GoFundMe<\/a>&nbsp;for Cook. Once the two best friends tested a few caretakers, the 31-year-old realized he was going to have to do something more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe only other option was for her to go into a facility,\u201d he told&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.today.com\/money\/chris-salvatore-invites-ailing-89-year-old-neighbor-norma-move-t107244?cid=sm_tw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TODAY<\/a>. \u201cI just couldn\u2019t do that to someone who is like my own grandmother.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He invited Cook to move into his apartment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"639\" height=\"764\" src=\"https:\/\/makamuki.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/image-26.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-292\" srcset=\"https:\/\/makamuki.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/image-26.png 639w, https:\/\/makamuki.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/image-26-251x300.png 251w, https:\/\/makamuki.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/image-26-300x359.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 639px) 100vw, 639px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m so happy I was able to give her this gift of living her last days at home,\u201d Salvatore told&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/gofundme-stories\/gofundme-profiles-chris-and-norma-aef3213a90a5\" target=\"_blank\">GoFundMe<\/a>. \u201cI can\u2019t imagine what it\u2019s like to go through the end of your life at a hospital without your friends or pets.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two turned out to be excellent roommates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe always watch the news,\u201d Cook told TODAY. \u201cWe mostly talk and drink Champagne and eat peanuts.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"638\" height=\"706\" src=\"https:\/\/makamuki.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/image-27.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-293\" srcset=\"https:\/\/makamuki.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/image-27.png 638w, https:\/\/makamuki.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/image-27-271x300.png 271w, https:\/\/makamuki.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/image-27-300x332.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 638px) 100vw, 638px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, on February 15, 2017&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/BQjFlZeDfBY\/?utm_source=ig_embed\" target=\"_blank\">Cook passed away<\/a>.
