The 62-year-old superstar received the first-ever Country Icon Award at the inaugural People\u2019s Choice Country Awards on Thursday evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before the award ceremony commenced, Keith shared with Fox News Digital that he\u2019s doing \u201calright\u201d and that his faith has been a cornerstone during challenging times, such as when he revealed his stomach cancer diagnosis in June 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/patriottruths.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/image-94.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8955\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI lean on my faith, and I just pray and lean into it,\u201d Keith remarked. \u201cYou gotta\u2019 do what you gotta\u2019 do, and I don\u2019t know how people do it without faith\u2026 that\u2019s what I did, it was my rock.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keith expressed his hope to return to performing in the fall, provided \u201ceverything goes good.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The country music legend also commented on the \u201cpretty crazy\u201d experience of receiving the Icon Award. \u201cThirty years of all the songs I wrote, and they\u2019re flashing by ya pretty quick,\u201d Keith noted. \u201cThirty went by pretty quick\u2026 I\u2019m glad they\u2019re recognizing our accomplishment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Blake Shelton, an \u201cold friend\u201d of Keith\u2019s, presented him with the award at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee. Keith revealed that Shelton was his top choice for presenting the award: \u201cHe\u2019s an old friend of mine, I was his first tour when he came out. We remain friends, we\u2019re a lot alike\u2026 kindred spirits kind of thing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/patriottruths.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/image-95.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8956\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Before Shelton took the stage to present the award, a tribute video honored Keith. When presenting the award, Shelton affectionately called Keith his \u201cOklahoma brother.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keith, upon taking the stage, shared a warm hug with Shelton and humorously remarked, \u201cI bet y\u2019all never thought you would see me in skinny jeans.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The legendary musician expressed gratitude to his family, fans, and God for allowing him to receive the award that evening. He then launched into a performance of his song \u201cDon\u2019t Let the Old Man In.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the red carpet earlier in the evening, members of Little Big Town and Dustin Lynch praised Keith\u2019s performance, with Lynch calling him \u201cone of his heroes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/patriottruths.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/image-96.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8957\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In June 2022, Keith disclosed that he had been diagnosed with stomach cancer in the fall of 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He shared the news on his social media accounts, stating, \u201cLast fall, I was diagnosed with stomach cancer. I\u2019ve spent the last 6 months receiving chemo, radiation, and surgery. So far, so good. I need time to breathe, recover, and relax.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keith expressed eagerness to spend time with his family and reconnect with his fans. He is renowned for his support of families grappling with cancer diagnoses, having co-founded Ally\u2019s House in 2004, a nonprofit organization that aids Oklahoma children with cancer and their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The organization was named after Allison Webb, the late daughter of one of Keith\u2019s original band members, who tragically passed away from kidney cancer before her third birthday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following Ally\u2019s House, Keith established the Toby Keith Foundation in 2006, dedicated to promoting the health and happiness of pediatric cancer patients.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"font-size: 0px; height: 0px; line-height: 0px; margin: 0; padding: 0; clear: both;\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Keith, the inaugural recipient of the People\u2019s Choice Country Icon Award, is looking forward to returning to the stage in the fall.
